Friends of Canadian Cyclo-cross Racers

Friends have raised $4000.00

Aussi disponsible en français As Cyclo-cross is not an Olympic sport, the Canadian Cycling Association doesn't provide any funding for the National Cyclo-cross Team, meaning riders must cover their own airfare, accommodations, meals, equipment expenses and even their national team jerseys. We have seen the commitment that it has taken for these riders to qualify and get there and we want to help them along by taking some of the financial burden off of their shoulders, allowing them to focus on their racing and representing Canada at Cross Worlds in Treviso.

Thanks to your generous support, the Friends of Canadian Cyclocross Racers in 06/07 raised over $4000 of support for the National CX team's Worlds project in Hooglede-Gits cutting the riders' costs by a third. For the '08 Worlds, our goal is to provide $750 of support for each rider. As it stands today, prior to selections being announced, we don't know what this works out to as a total, but it's a goal.

Elite women: Wendy Simms, Lyne Bessette, Kelly Jones
Elite men: Mike Garrigan, Osmond Bakker, Aaron Schooler
U23 men: Kyle Douglas , Brian Robinson , Shaun Adamson , Ian Manning
Junior men: David Larson

As a start, we've been selling socks - you may have seen FCCR socks out on the roads/trails. This kicked off the 07/08 campaign and will raise around the first $1k of support. We have a few left, so these will be mailed out to the first people to contribute.

As last year, we hope that a major sponsor will come forward and contact the CCA in support of the National Team. Funds can be directed to specific projects and we believe that the CX team project is as important as others. And as per last year, you can also contact the CCA directly to make a contribution.

For those who contributed last year and submitted an address for a tax receipt - the CCA will be sending a tax receipt with their year end mailings. We apologize for the delay, but it is out of our hands. We can again provide a tax receipt this year, but it will be for the 2008 tax year and will be mailed with the year end for this year.

The 07/08 World Championships are in Treviso Italy on January 26/27th, 2008.
