Tour Of Pellham

I did this race last year as a season opener. It was stoopid fun but too early in the year to take seriously but was a great tune up for Paris Ancaster. April 4th anyone else eyeing this race to fix their cross jones? The Big Daddy plans on attending PA /Calaboogie hmmm, PA /Calaboogie, decisions, decisions

new start location this

new start location this year at Brock U. This should lead to a slightly longer a bit more technical course than last year. It is easliy the coolest race going with the varying terrain and scenery in the area,

PA is close second and Cowbell Cross third

no shameless plug there.

hahaha.. what a shill!

hahaha.. what a shill! ;)

I really enjoyed Pelham last year, so I'll definitely be out again this Spring.

Yup. I'm in!

Yup. I'm in!

Nathan - technical, but

Nathan - technical, but still ok for a cross bike?

still cross bike

still cross bike friendly

the trails that maybe added are more technical than the road they would replace but less techincal than the trails that were in the race last year.

Yes. Single speed too.

Yes. Single speed too.

Nathan, you're just being

Nathan, you're just being humble putting those races before your own cross race. They may be longer, but there's nothing quite like a few kilometers of tape and stakes in a park.

Hold

Hold on...

If the start is at Bruck U, does that mean no pancake breakfast?

If you park at Brock Uni

If you park at Brock Uni early you can stil;l have pancakes at McDonalds. Once you've downed it you can do a warm up over to Hydro Hill.

there's gotta be something

there's gotta be something better than mcdonald's pancakes (no offence). last year's pancakes were served atta sugar shack. given the choice between p2a and calaboogie, i am so at p2a. just finishing up week four of the twelve week training program. starting to develop a six pack for the first time in forty-six years and several generations. can't wait to see what we have to work with come april.

Don't forget the Hell of

Don't forget the Hell of the North on the same day as Paris Roubix put on by Labicisquadra

80km race from Musselmans Lake

There's a four points hotel

There's a four points hotel real close to brock that may have a buffet on in the A.M. Dependant of the number of guests in the hotel that day. Otherwise they serve a regular breakfast menu. Myself and a pack of Thorold Trail Hogs will be meeting at the Mozie on Inn @ Glendale rd. and the Canal for pancakes. The restaurant is about a 15 minute ride to the start line so that will serve as our warm up before going anerobic up the Hydro hill. It should be a good suffer fest all day long! Hope to see y'all there! SSJason.

Is anyone doing the back to

Is anyone doing the back to back Tour of Pelham and Icebreaker April 4th and 5th? Dave will you be defending your win? Pelham is 'Cross bike friendly but, is Oxbridge Ice Breaker?? Thanks, Eric

Uxbridge is very cross

Uxbridge is very cross friendly. There is still a lot of snow in the woods and it will effect everyone regardless of bicycle. Anything rideable, especially the road sections...CX is the best choice.

Tire choice... I've never

Tire choice... I've never done this race; I have mud treads and file treads. Which is better? Thanks, kevin

Tire choice...I'm leaning

Tire choice...I'm leaning towards something more than file treads. There are no paved sections. The trail sections are either going to be snow or mud and it can be quite deep. About a third is hard pack road with some loose gravel and pot holes.

Thanks. I just checked out

Thanks. I just checked out some photos from last year, and it doesn't look like mud tires will be a detriment. kevin

4" of muck in the short

4" of muck in the short hills Hey All, I rode yesterday. Did my normal CX ride on the SS CX rig (40X16). Not much trails. Mostly double track and utility rd stuff. 2:36 up Hydro hill. Boy was I pooped when I hit the top! Eventually made my way out to the short hills @ the Wiley rd enterance. Wiley rd double track was unrideable on the second hill. Most parts had 4-6" clay like muck with deep horse hoof tracks through them. It was even hard to shoulder the bike and run through. There is plenty of directions Tim can route the race. The CX bike will be the way to go. I don't know if I am racing, because I have family commitments this weekend. We might get out and volunteer. I'll get to watch everyone suffer some. Hopefully take some pics for ya'll. We'll be at the MOZIE on INN for pre race pancakes. Check the St.Catharines CC forum for details about the race. See ya soon! Jay

Holy cow that was

Holy cow that was fun. Thanks to Rod, Paul and Rick for boosting me through the road sections at a good speed. I might have come in just behind you guys if my cog hadn't eaten my derailleur in the last singletrack/mud section. kevin

One small tip that may save

One small tip that may save a few derailers in the future

in that last section in that kind of mud pick a gear and stay with it, shifting with that amount of mud is asking for trouble. chances are you'll be okay but being over or undergeared a bit will not be that much slower.

It was a great day and hats off to all who raced it was a tough day out there.

If it makes you fell better my wife tourched a brand new dura ace 10 spd derailer, chain and managed to shred off the derailer hanger also

some people will do anything to get out of riding in the head wind :)

Funny thing, I wasn't even

Funny thing, I wasn't even shifting. I still have no idea what happened. Hey, that's why I ride 105. I heard you won again Nathan. Congratulations.
