2009 Kingston Challenge

At the shop I work at have had some early interest in Cross. Specifically the Kingston Cross Challenge in October. The biggest question is location. Is it to be the same location this year?

Sorry, can't help you with the location. However, in a somewhat related vein...Willowbeach CX is the day before in Port Hope and we are offering free camping for those that want to do the Willowbeach/Kingston double.

Race all ot Saturday with the extra thrill of leg cramps on the 401. Brilliant.

I would bet that yes, it

I would bet that yes, it will be at Lake Ontario Park again. It's a great venue for setting up a CX course, they've used it for the last few years, and there are only 1 or 2 other locations in Kingston that would be as good, and they're much harder to secure for a race. Bob Woods would be able to tell you for sure. There should be contact info at www.cyclocross.org.

We are planning to use Lake

We are planning to use Lake Ontario Park again. But there's a catch. Kingston's city council recently approved a massive redevelopment of the park. Its construction may begin this fall and force us to use another park in the city. We're still waiting to hear from the city about its construction schedule which has yet to be finalized as far as I can tell. Ian Austen.

Hopefully they will tell you sooner then later.

Right hand boards. Practice

Right hand boards. Practice your right hand turns over barricades (Dismount and turn right to face the boards). You will find that this is the most challenging part of the eastern series. Some have gone as far as learning to dismount on the right side of the bike.

Any updates on location?

I'm still chasing the City

I'm still chasing the City of Kingston for an answer about its plans. If Lake Ontario doesn't work out, it will still be at a park in Kingston. Ian

Had I checked my e-mail

Had I checked my e-mail first, I would have seen that the Kingston's council has asked for another public consultation meeting on the park's renovation plan and will hold a final vote on the changes in October. While the park's dog run as already been permanently closed in preparation for the changes, I'm assuming that we'll be OK. But, who knows? They may throw us out like the dogs. Ian

Consultation,

Consultation, consultation... it seems like that's all that ever gets done around here. Knowing this town it will be another 5 years of consultation, 5 years of bidding, and 5 years for the work to be done exactly the wrong way.

Was at the park today doing

Was at the park today doing a little practicing. From what I saw there are no survey markers or anything yet to show any future construction. In regards to the throw us out comment. It seems like anything fun like bike racing and such is not allowed within town limits. When I worked at Downtown Sports they had all sorts of stuff up about races that used to be annual events here.

If you can find an

If you can find an organizer, you can have an event. Contrary to first impressions, the lack of on-road cycling events in the city is due to the lack of organizers (it IS a huge amount of work) and not due to bureaucratic issues.

Have heard rumour that

Have heard rumour that someone may be organizing some low key events next year.

A sport race is a

A sport race is a competition of speed, against an objective criterion, usually a clock or to a specific point. The competitors in a race try to complete a given task in the shortest amount of time. Typically this involves traversing some distance,117-102 but it can be any other task involving speed to reach a specific goal.A race may be run continuously from start to finish or may be made of several segments called heats, 70-350 stages or legs. A heat is usually run over the same course at different times. A stage is a shorter section of a much longer course or a time trial.Early records of races are evident on pottery from ancient Greece, 000-071 which depicted running men vying for first place. A chariot race is described in Homer's Iliad.
