Fango vs. Grifo: Clash of the Tubulars

It's well-past the time that I should be ordering my tubulars for this season, so I'm going to do that ASAP. I'm thinking of trying out the Challenge Fangos (32mm) for our series but the other obvious option is a pair of Grifos. Has anyone who's used the new Grifos and the Fangos and have an opinion either way?

The Grifos are certainly a tried and true design that's been updated slightly with the extra side knobs but I like that a lot of thought and development went into designing the Fangos from scratch as an improved design.

Anyway, chime in with your $0.02 if you've got an opinion. CX nerds always seem to be up for shooting the shit about tires so consider this an invitation. ;)

I am running both tires

I am running both tires you've mentioned here this season. By chance, I ended up using both at the Cowbell's cross race. In my opinion the Fangos are the way to go. The Grifos are a bit faster rolling tire, but the added grip I found with the Fangos far outweighed the speed gains on the Grifos. The Fangos would be faster rolling than the Dugast Rhinos IMO also as they are not ridiculously knobbed up. Just my $0.02. Good luck finding some. Pete

I agree with Pete! I've

I agree with Pete! I've ridden both and the added grip/confidence the Fango give, far outway the millisecond saved by running Grifos. FANGOS all the way, or Dugast Rhinos if you want a really good tire.....lol, sorry, had to.

I am feeling the same way

I am feeling the same way about being more conservative with treads in general - on both mtb and cross I find myself faster with grippier tires because of the increased confidence. I'm not cool enough (read: don't have the skill) to really take advantage of file treads.

Good to know. I ordered some

Good to know. I ordered some this morning from an online store but there's always the NEXT set of tubulars ...

Has anyone had any

Has anyone had any experience with Vitorria EVO XM tubulars? Are they worth the extra $???

just got a set of them ...

just got a set of them ... but waiting on my wheels to glue em up and ride. should have some sort of opinion (but not race info) by the end of next week.

comparing the older xg (i think ... i always forget the names) tubular to these ones ... the old ones are one hell of alot stiffer ... so we will see if it translates into vittoria actually having a supple cross tubular.

The tires arrived today. I

The tires arrived today. I picked them up from bikeman.com and while the price wasn't very good they did actually have some in stock.

The second debate has been

The second debate has been over the ability to high speed internet service make universal claims about all cultures. Although Boas argued that anthropologists had yet to collect enough solid evidence from a diverse sample of societies to make any valid general or universal claims about culture, hard drive recovery by the 1940s some felt ready. Whereas Kroeber and Benedict had argued that "culture"—which could refer to local, regional, or trans-regional scales—was in some way "patterned" or "configured," some anthropologists now felt that enough data had been collected to demonstrate that it often took highly structured work from home forms. The question these anthropologists debated was, were these structures statistical artifacts, or where they expressions of mental models? This debate emerged full-fledged in 1949, with the publication of George Murdock's Social Structure, best web hosting and Claude Lévi-Strauss's Les Structures Élémentaires de la Parenté.
