Verge Rhode Island

Lets first start off with man it is a far drive. About 11 hrs of traveling for 80min of racing.

Drive was pretty uneventful until we got below the mountains and then the snow came. Not too bad but just enough to piss you off. Then the traffic jam on the 295 with some guy doing 25k in the right lane with his 4 ways on.

We decided to go early to the race on Saturday to help get Pierre all set to go but he was so hyped that he rode with someone else down to the race site. We all drove down a bit latter.

With the amount of races that they have there is not a lot of time for preriding so we got on the course before we signed up. It was an ice field and hard as a rock. Very fast course with lots of twists and turns and yes lots of ROAD sections.

Pierre raced the Master 3/4 and did great coming 8th.

Next up was myself. 4 rows of call ups left me in the last starting spot of 64 riders. The start of the race was uphill on the road to a real fast grass section. Everyone took off like mad and I was on the chase. I drafted up the road passing a few riders with the help of the big ring. When we hit the grass I kept going on the outside as everyone just wanted to get in line. I passed at least 20 riders doing that.

Next we went around a bunch of trees twisting and turning and sliding on the frozen icy ground. Just stayed in line here. Went down torwards the beach at a blistering pace as the ground was rock hard, ( it would later thaw out and get muddy ) morer twists and turns and then down on the beach, past a few more going wide and rinding most of it before getting bogged down by the deep stuff. Off the bike up the short hill and back on. More twists and turns and the down through the shrubery. Off the bike as there was too much congestion, run down and back up, jump on the bike and ride back down again.

Flying across the ROAD section and back into the woods for some high speed twists and turns before rounding the carasoule and back down to the road for a high speed crank past all the single ring users and off for a second lap.

Managed to come 36/64 not bad starting from the back 5min down.

Next was Briana. I missd some of her race because I was cleaning up. She rode great and came 7th.

Next up was the Killer B's Mark, Darko, Rod and Alex + some from Ottawa. This is the toughest cat as it is like a senior 2/3 race in Ontario.

The pro racing was fast and furious. They put us all to shame. We got to cheer for Osmand Bakker, Derek St.John and Natasha Elliot.

The beer was free and we had many.

More later.
