Cyclo-cross World Cup #11
Tara Ross
Hi everyone, I thought I'd get a report out early since I am home early from the race! By now you have seen the Greg Reain was 20th today! He isn't home yet, so you will have to go to his blog later to get the story. All I know is that it was thunderstorming and hailing before the elite men's start... totally changing the course. While the espoirs and I had thick mud to deal with, the elite men had very slippery conditions and they even had to run a couple of the sketchy downhills! I just finished watching the highlights of the race on tv.
So the reason I am home early...I hate DNF's but had to do it today. I was having a great race, and comfortably racing "in the twenties" so I was not in THE race but racing! I did a bike change with 1.5 to go. Unfortunately, when I was coming out of the pits I crashed pretty hard into a girl, my front wheel got really caught in her rear derailleur and I just bit it. I hit my head on a barrier foot and then again on the ground. When I went to jump back on my bike I knew I wasn't ready to continue. I didn't feel right until a few hours later. I am good now though, clean, warm, fed and my headache has gone away already. I am not a shoulda woulda coulda person, but I was super stoked with my technical riding and my form so if I can have to same kind of ride next Sunday, I will be one very happy girl!
