verge to the east

December 10, verge #8, Greenwich. I was pumped by yesterdays finish. This race was in a stand of pine trees with two sandy beach runs. The commissaire warned us that the trees were winning the battle this day ( someone was taken away by ambulance). A local that I had befriended told me to expect a lot more speed. This time I looked over the heads of 60 people. The course consisted of really tight corners on hard pack sand. The finish was down a huge sweeping paved road. This pavement extended into a parking lot with two 180 degree turns. This was at the start of the lap and it was brutally fast. In a flash I found myself in the back at the first beach runnup.
Lynne Bysette raced with us. When I caught up to her group of about six people we were on the last lap (running in the low teens). When they hit the beach, the back bunched up trying not to run into the ones who slowed in the front. I rode the bike as deep as I could and made up a couple of places and thought that things were going to end well. Just then I looked over to see Lynne running by at twice the speed of me. She made up about three or four places. Me I ended up at the same spot at the back of the group. I tried to make up two places but crashed on the corner to the paved finish. Lynne gathered herself up and started the women's race right after her finish.
We went to Providence later and ate some really good food. The whole experience of racing got me so pumped all I could think about was mounting a campaign next year so that I could get a better start. Its just money right. Infectious!
